DEBATE CLUB #3: Fire Safety in Public Buildings : Do we need tighter legislation ?

Following the terrible tragedy in Switzerland, are safety standards in France adequate or is it just impossible to check all the different concert halls, night clubs, bars and churches where there are often large gatherings of people? Come to tonight’s Debate Club and discuss this very current topic!

QUESTIONS FOR DEBATE

Are emergency safety exits always well indicated in public venues?

Are fire extinguishers visible?

When safety instructions are visible, do most people just ignore them as often happens in a plane or boat?

Should candles and other naked flame amusements be banned from these places?

Is legislation on inflammable building materials strict enough?

Should there be stricter age limit checks on bars and night clubs?

What about all the thousands of restaurants in historic town centres, which are often found in premises which were not originally designed for leisure purposes?

We often complain that there are too many rules in France, but maybe this is for our own good ?

Should the law be tougher on the owners of these premises?

How should we react to people who seem to take pleasure in filming other peoples' misfortunes on their portable phones?
